Seasonal Selections
Summer is a crucial period for wine growing and production, where careful practices play a key role in shaping the final product. During this season, vineyard managers focus on nurturing the vines, ensuring they are healthy and productive. The attention given to irrigation, pest management, and canopy management is vital for optimal grape development.
Current summer releases from renowned regions in Europe, such as Bordeaux and Tuscany, reflect the impact of recent hot summers, resulting in exceptional wines with rich and concentrated flavors. In the U.S., releases from Napa and Oregon showcase vibrant fruit profiles balanced with refreshing acidity. This summer, wine enthusiasts can anticipate current releases that embody these qualities, featuring bright whites and structured reds that celebrate the terroir of each region and the favorable growing conditions experienced in the last several years.

Ernest Estate 2022 Pinot Noir
From the Freestone-Occidental Valley in western Sonoma - this vintage prioritizes maritime influences, structure and restraint over ripeness. Vineyard is characterized by extreme cold temperatures and extended durations of fog, planted in sandy loam that encourages deep root structure that contributes to the wine’s mineral undertone.
The Nose shows notes of pomegranate, cherry cola and tart cherry, layered with savory elements like bay laurel and pennyroyal, a distinct floral aspect of rose petals and charred violet pervade. The Palate is concentrated yet silky, the fruit leans towards red and blue berries over black fruits - a savory backbone of anise, dried herbs, earth and hints of nutmeg. A structure of smooth tannins and fresh acidity provide a bright and lingering Finish.
Aged 8-10 months in French oak and about a third of the time in new oak. A limited bottling of only 420 cases the 2022 Estate, while approachable now, is expected to evolve beautifully over the next 5-8 years. Curator’s Tip: With aging expect the tart fruit notes to soften into a more dried fruit palate supported by the high acidity of the vintage. You will possibly also find an evolution of the wines minerality and spice towards more distinct notes of forest floor, black tea, tobacco leaf, dried sage, and potentially porcini mushrooms or truffle after a more extended aging.
